About Aseem Patel
Hello!
I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Essex.
My primary research interests are in macroeconomics, labor economics and applied econometrics.
I received my PhD from Sciences Po, Paris in 2021. My supervisors were Jean-Marc Robin (Sciences Po Paris), Jan Eeckhout (UPF) and Zsofia Barany (Sciences Po).
My research examines how technological change—particularly automation and AI—reshapes labour markets, market structure, and inequality. I combine large-scale administrative data, modern econometric methods, and quantitative theory to understand who wins and loses from technological change, and what policies might help.
As a Lecturer in Economics at the University of Essex, I teach Monetary Economics and International Macroeconomics.
