About Daiji Kawaguchi
Daiji Kawaguchi is Professor of Economics and Public Policy at the University of Tokyo and Research Fellow at the Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry (RIETI). He received his Ph.D. in Economics from Michigan State University in 2002 and has held faculty positions at Osaka University, University of Tsukuba, and Hitotsubashi University. His research focuses on labor economics, particularly the impacts of technological change on employment and wages, with a special emphasis on heterogeneity across education and skill levels. He is also interested in public policies that aim to improve workers' welfare and mitigate labor market inequality—such as labor standard laws and minimum wage laws—and aims to expand his work to include tax policies and training subsidies. His research has been published in leading journals including Journal of Labor Economics, Journal of Urban Economics, and Management Science. Kawaguchi has served as a associate-editor of Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization and on various government advisory panels in Japan. Through his work, he seeks to contribute to evidence-based policymaking that enhances labor market opportunities and reduces disparities by education and gender.
