About Hitoshi Shigeoka
Hitoshi Shigeoka is a Professor in the Graduate School of Public Policy (GraSPP) at the University of Tokyo. He received his Ph.D. in economics from Columbia University in 2012 and his B.A. and M.A in chemical engineering from the University of Tokyo in 2001. Prior to joining the University of Tokyo, he was an Associate Professor at Simon Fraser University in Canada. His research lies at the intersection of health economics and behavioral economics. He has documented empirical findings that do not necessarily follow classical demand theory, such as “zero-price effects” and “price asymmetry in demand responses.” His papers have been published in leading journals, including American Economic Review, American Economic Journal: Applied Economics, Review of Economics and Statistics, Economic Journal, and Management Science. He sits on the Board of Editors for the American Economic Journal: Economic Policy, and is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Health Economics and the Japanese Economic Review.
