About Nicole Maestas
Nicole Maestas, Ph.D. is the John D. MacArthur Professor of Economics and Health Care Policy, and Chair of the Department of Health Care Policy at Harvard Medical School. She is an appointed Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine and the National Academy of Social Insurance. Dr. Maestas studies the economics of health care systems, disability insurance, labor markets, and population aging. Her research investigates the effects of public insurance policies on health care utilization and health, how the provider landscape shapes access to mental health care, the work disincentive effects of disability insurance programs, work capacity and employment among people with disabilities and older individuals, the value of working conditions, and the effects of population aging on economic growth. Dr. Maestas has published widely in the leading journals of economics, policy and medicine.
