Sascha Becker on Luther’s Influence from Wittenberg to the Digital Age

The German public broadcaster MDR (Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk) featured research by RFBerlin project leader Sascha Becker and his co-authors, examining how Martin Luther’s teachings continue to shape modern ideas of success and influence.

Becker emphasized that “Luther’s influence worked above all through his correspondence, his visits to other towns, and his students in Wittenberg.” The study traces how these early communication networks helped spread new cultural norms and values that still resonate today.

Becker explained that Luther’s reformist networks not only transformed religious and social life in the 16th century but also laid the groundwork for modern patterns of communication and reputation-building, extending from the Reformation era to today’s world of social media and digital influencers.
