L’Express, one of France’s leading weekly news magazines, published an interview with Christian Dustmann discussing Europe’s difficulty in addressing immigration and integration from a long-term perspective. The conversation followed new INSEE data showing that six million foreigners currently live in France, which is around 8.8% of the population and below the European average.

He stressed that successful integration requires sustained attention to labour market access, language acquisition, and education, highlighting that many European governments still treat migration as temporary rather than structural
