We are continuing the ROCKWOOL Foundation Handbook Masterclass Series, based on the Handbook of Labour Economics. In this series we invite contributed authors of handbook chapters to Berlin for in-depth, two-day teaching sessions.
This time, we are happy to welcome Andrea Weber for the next masterclass in the series.
RFBerlin Masterclass by Andrea Weber: 23-24 October 2025
For this Masterclass, we are delighted to welcome Andrea Weber. She is Professor of Economics at the Central European University, Project Leader at RFBerlin and serves as co-editor at the Journal of the European Economic Association. She is also Fellow of the Econometric Society, Research Fellow at CESifo and a Corresponding Member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Her research focuses on the role of institutions and labor market policies on labor supply decisions, the role of firms in the labor market, policies to reduce gender differences, and the effects of migration and economic shocks on individual careers.

“Job Search, Unemployment Insurance, and Active Labor Market Policies”
by Thomas Le Barbanchon, Johannes Schmieder & Andrea Weber
This chapter, prepared for the Handbook of Labor Economics, presents a comprehensive overview of how labor economists understand job search among the unemployed and how job search is shaped by unemployment insurance and active labor market policies. It focuses on synthesizing key lessons from the empirical research of the last decade and presents recent novel theoretical developments.
This masterclass provides a unique opportunity, with plenty of time for discussion and direct interaction with Professor Weber. Participants will be able to ask questions and engage in conversations with one of the leading voices in labor economics.
