We at RFBerlin are seeking a committed and strategic Head of Communications to lead and further develop the institute’s communications activities.
RFBerlin conducts research aimed at improving public debate and providing a strong evidence base for policymaking. Our work focuses on key issues in labor and applied economics, including unemployment, inequality, technology, health, gender economics, and migration. This is an exciting leadership opportunity to shape how RFBerlin engages with policymakers, the media, and the wider public, while expanding and managing a comprehensive and modern communications strategy.
Responsibilities
- Expand and oversee RFBerlin’s overarching communications strategy, covering research dissemination, media relations, digital presence, and stakeholder engagement.
- Manage a communications team, providing strategic direction, mentoring, and oversight of day-to-day output.
- Cultivate and manage relationships with leading media outlets, journalists, and policy stakeholders in Germany and internationally, raising RFBerlin’s public profile.
Qualifications
- A degree in communications, journalism, economics, or a related field; several years of professional experience in communications, including people management responsibility, are required.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex research findings for diverse audiences, including policymakers, media, and the public.
- Interest in social policy, evidence-based policy-making, and economics.
- Proficiency in German and English is required.
- Familiarity with the tools and platforms that underpin a modern research communications strategy (including social media, newsletters, web content management, and digital analytic) is expected.
Remuneration
We are offering a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Both full-time and part-time contracts may be offered at any seniority level.

Location
The position is based in our offices in the centre of Berlin, Germany. Fully remote work is not an option for this role.
