RFBerlin Affiliates Featured in Financial Times on Graduate Employment Choices

The Financial Times featured research by RFBerlin affiliates Matthew Nibloe and Clara von Bismarck-Osten in an article by Amy Borrett, titled “No, the UK has not reached ‘peak graduate’.” The piece examines trends among UK university graduates entering the labour market, including shifts in career choices and sector preferences.

In discussing graduates entering the public sector, Borrett cites findings from the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) report “Who Enters the Public Sector?” by Nibloe and von Bismarck-Osten. The study finds that the share of graduates from the top five UK universities entering public service remained stable in the decade after the financial crisis, despite a widening pay gap with the private sector.

The article also highlights that many graduates value non-monetary aspects of public employment, such as job security, flexibility, and workplace benefits are factors that continue to attract high-achieving students to the sector.
